This was a weekend in trying my patience as a parent. Preston is going through a stage, the likes of which I cannot comprehend. The listening ears are non-existent, a temper tantrum in Wal Mart where you would have thought he was being taken to the torture chamber, 952 times the word “poopy” or some variation on the theme was used and my telling him to come inside prompted him to hit me-that at that point Preston and the bar of Ivory soap had a date. Needless to say he is going to watch that mouth! I don’t know if it is the school, the children, the age…but I am one “pee pee head” away from private religious daycare. He is so fresh lately. I also don’t know if this is a show off thing-especially in front of his father this weekend. Preston is also…spoiled. (yeah there’s a shocker). Add to it that he is an only child of divorced parents, the only grandchild and now his father is back and not denying him anything. You see where this is going?
He is also lucky that he is drop dead adorable and I love him to pieces despite the shenanigans. Oh and the outfit you see below-that was a cause for a fit because he only wants t-shirts. I calmly explained that there are children who don’t have clothes, or shoes and sleep on dirt (he actually paused to say “ew”). Here’s a picture of the offending outfit…
Horrible huh? Don’t I suck?Today was Madeline’s first birthday party! We had a blast. Sammy and Jordana put out a nice brunch and Preston had a good time playing with the other kids. The picture below was taken before we left after a lot of pleading. The other picture is Preston and Princess Ashley. The face is priceless-this is his newest expression. He loves to tell me Ashley is “woofing” at him!
They were so cute together at Maddie’s new kitchen set! We ended the night at a local diner and Preston was oh so willing to take this shot:
Have a great week! Look for my New York post sometime this week!

I'm dying down here because Riley has been in one of those moods as well...it seems like she goes through cycles from being really good and sweet to crabby and yelling over everything. We were in Disney and Sea World this weekend and she had quite a few of those moments - especially the temper tantrums. She could teach the class on flying off the handle over NOTHING. Well to us it's nothing, to her it's the end of the world! I swear it's why kids are so cute...so we don't sell them :) Preston is just adorable in the kitchen! And I cannot believe you dressed him in that awful shirt! I feel your pain on that one - Peyton doesn't want to get dressed in the morning unless it's to put on a princess shirt (and she will only wear princess pjs these days as well).
Just rest assured that you are not alone! Everyone makes a big deal about 2 when 3 is just as bad!
I'll buy! I'll even give you double your asking price! I definitely remember when I was ready to sell Catherine too. I didn't like her much when she was chomping on the neighbor kids! Yow. But guess what, we both got over it and I'm pretty crazy about her now. And Anne, holy cow, she was my tantrum thrower. Nobody did it better. I'm pretty crazy about her now too.
And PS...you're right about the adorableness.
Kim~
I love your Sunday night posts ... they are a great way to end the weekend! I've heard three is worse then two?! Guess you summed it up :0)
Preston is so darn cute ... even if he is naughty! I love the look on his face when the dog is "woofing" at him!!!
In your NY post can you include a place with good NY style pizza? Dan is looking forward to good NY pizza. Looking forward to it ... except I don't yet have Caden's outfits planned as you have Preston's :0(
Have a good week!
Aidan and Pres are going through the same stage. I'm afraid 4 isn't much better either. Just yesterday, it would have been nice to visit Jaime and baby Hanna by myself in the hospital but with Todd working I had the kids with me. Aidan had a weird meltdown prior to going into the hospital and didn't want me going in. I told the kids once in the hospital that they need to be quiet and not run around....guess what happened in the hospital...almost got kicked out. Then you know what happened at Trader Joes. Fun filled weekend. Preston is adorable any way you can have him...love him to pieces.
Kim your blog is the blog that makes my cry in laughter everytime I read it. I seriously cannot believe that, first of all, he was listening, caring, or even understanding what you had to say about children sleeping on dirt, let alone responding with, "ew". That's hilarious! I think that these adorable little boys have us all figured out, he knows what his precious little face can pull and then when you dress him so darn cute, you couldn't possibly expect anything less, could you? I'm sorry that he's being crazy, if I lived close I'd have him over for a playday and long playday!
He's too cute to be a trouble maker!
Too funny that he acutally listened to you explaining about the clothes, shoes, etc. If he's running away from you in stores you can always try our "toes" trick - the minute the girls take off we yell "(Insert name here) touch your toes!" . . . the magic of it is that they can't run if their hands are on their feet! He is wicked cute though, and I don't doubt that he milks it for all he can (just like Nikki does!).
Preston is just too cute!! I'm not looking forward to those moods though - Simon has been testing us lately. Love Preston's outfits, and Simon likes the picture of Preston with his hat on backwards! Too much - Preston actually listening to you about children sleeping on dirt and then saying "ew" - he cracks me up! I can't wait to meet him (and you!) in person sometime! He can visit us any time you need a break!!
Kim just like others have said I know just how you feel. Ferns tantrums just go on and on and on..there is no distracting. I put her in her room to put space between us but have to use a stair gate otherwise she uses her head to try and bash it down! This morning tantrum was because she asked for her nappy to come off, i asked leo to help and do it after which she screamed and screamed coz she didnt want it off..cant win!! Today she wont share either:( Good job they are sooo cute and adorable. I love the pics as usual:)
Haha! Love the pic of your cutie with Ashley! What a face! As for the poo poo pee pee head thing, I think it's just the age! We went through it with our older girls, I know, girls?! Yep, they go through it too! For us it was "I farted on you, haha!" or "stinky butt, stinky butt!" or my favorite "my poop is green and smells like a big fart!" Oh the trying times of toddlerhood! We did a spot of black pepper on the tongue every time, it didn't stop it much but it helped a little! :) I bet it's super hard to nip it in the bud with Preston! He is just too adorable, it must be hard to tell him no!
This is hilarious! I wish I could sympathize, but Kim...that face! He's too adorable!! Okay, okay, I know that despite the cuteness, they can sometimes make us want to commit oursleves to the loony bin. And I wish I could say that private religious school helps to limit the bathroom talk...unfortunately we are overrun with "poopy head," even from our good little Catholic schoolboy! Can't wait to see you guys.
I love that last picture and I thought Yogi was the only one to "woof" at him..... hahaha! Miss you guys!
Oh Kim, you can't let him get to you. I know it's hard, but you must ignore the tantrums! Taylor is mostly out of this stage, so by 5 1/2 things are looking up, but Trace, OH MY, he can really really push the buttons! Luckily, Trace can't get most shirts back over his head, so after I wrestle the shirt on him, it's staying!
Hi Kim! I am Trisha's mom and Caden's grammy.... I just had to comment on this post of yours. It makes me laugh out loud histerically.....Preston is so darn adorable, I would pay a million dollars for him.... he is giving you and your parents so many fun memories which will bring a lifetime of joy & laughter!
So glad you guys get to meet the loves of my life in just a few short weeks.... I can not wait to see pictures of you, Preston, Caden, Trish & Dan together while in NY..... I am already shopping for the perfect frame for that photo. Thanks for your posts Kim... I think you are amazing and can feel how proud your parents are!!
Oh the Little Man is starting trouble. Can you imagine what will happen when Pher and Anna have a kid? He will NOT be having any of that!
I loved the scrunched up face! He's a cutie pie.
He just cracks me up! I'm afraid this is what Parker will be like in a few months! Good thing Pres is so adorable!
LOL!! I have been there many times with Sam!! ;)
I can't wait for your NYC post...I have been so busy lately I feel totally out of the loop! lol Keep me posted on what the plans are!!!
We did sign up for a couple outings though...
Oh Kim I feel your pain!!! Temper tantrums seem to be a constant thing around here! & I know all about the spoiled rotten business! I always say if he wasnt so freakin cute I would have given him away!! This is why they created wine!!! LOL!
Oh Kim, we are here too! I totally get the cute and spoiled and fit throwing. I always say, she's not as sweet as she looks (even though she is pretty sweet). :)
Feel free to send Preston to me for a few days....I bet he and Madeline would have a blast! :)
Sara
Ahhhhh, little stinker. Tell him to stop giving his Mommy such a hard time. Seems like similar things are happening here as well. It must be hard to get upset with him when he is so darn cute!
Kim, your posts always have me smiling while reading them. I love the pictures of Pres, as always. He's quite the snazzy dresser, thanks to you! Although you might believe it, Caitlyn has had quite a few meltdowns lately. Like Melisa said, 4 isn't much better than 3 - sorry! But with a face like his, you can't stay mad too long!
Is there something in the water? Ellie has been quite the little stinker, too. I've been referring to her as Miss Sassy Pants. Preston is so cute though...it'd be difficult to be mad at him for very long b/c he's just so darn adorable!!!
Hmmmmm - Matthew is 9 and still does all that!
Hang in there Kim - I am not sure that it gets better - but it does get different.
And I agree - his cuteness level is so high it would be hard not to love him.
Mike is 11 and he still puts poop into almost every sentence. I think it is just a boy thing and it will come and go with age. So you better get use to it.LOL
I will certainly like to purchase a Preston for 50 cents. He is a super cute dude!
