Short and Sweet

We have a HUGE week ahead of us with Aunt Melski’s wedding.  Preston’s outfit is all ready, my dress has been resized, my shoes are a go, I even have a weave for my hair if necessary from Jessie.  Mel is already freaking a bit about the weather even though I know it’s going to be a gorgeous day and there is no way to predict this far out.  My maid of honor speech is ready to be put on paper.  My best friend Dennis is coming with me as my plus 1. I figure after 17 years of putting up with me, he’s the perfect date-he knows my family and Mel and can entertain Pres while I give my speech.  Even he has been out and about getting a new suit, shoes etc.  This is a BIG DEAL! I need the perfect wedding card and a new camera card and we are set!  I cannot wait.  Mel is going to be the most beautiful bride.  I’m so honored to be standing by her side! There will be a couple of blog posts with tons of pictures up next week. Pres told me today, “Mommy, I’m not going to miss PaPa that much this week…we’ll be in New York at the apartment on Thursday.”  There you go dad.  A real pick me up from your grandson.

Nothing too exciting this weekend-Pres had two soccer games to make up for a rain out weekend.  He scored two goals this weekend.  He is one little aggressive player out there!

Foray into Fall

That means pumpkin patch in 85 degree weather.  Last weekend we headed down to the Chesterfield Berry Farm to get our pumpkin.  Here are some pictures from this event!

A darn shame there was no one else to take pictures---I would have made a mean goat.

This tractor is totally stationary, but it almost appears my dad is driving…and putting off the appearance that he knows what he is doing.  I’m not too sure he is succeeding.  I’m pretty sure Mr. Manhattan is not a tractor person.  However Preston has found what he would like for Christmas….

Got to love the tongue out in concentration.

We are so excited…only two more weekends until Aunt Melski’s wedding!  Yay!  I have picked up the last piece of Preston’s ensemble…a white oxford button down, his khakis are hemmed and he has his new pair of brown shoes.  The look is complete with his brown vest with orange piping.  He and Jackson are going to look ADORABLE!

Miracle Mile

Not the shopping mecca on the North Shore….this is about my miracle baby. Yesterday Katie and I were flipping through the radio stations in my car (we barely let a song end before we are looking for the next one). She stopped on Garth Brooks’ “Unanswered Prayers.” I think these lyrics sum up yesterday:

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers,

Remember when you’re talking to the man upstairs,

That just because he doesn’t answer, doesn't mean he don’t care,

Some of God’s greatest gifts, are unanswered prayers.

In the weeks leading up to Preston’s birth I remember praying so hard. Praying that the doctor’s were wrong about everything. That Preston’s limbs were going to grow. That he’d be “normal.” That the ultrasound technicians (all ten of them) measured wrong. Please God let him live. Let him not have any form of dwarfism.
The answered prayer: He lived.

The unanswered prayer: He had dwarfism.

I’ve said many times that I didn’t realize what I blessing I was being given at the time. If Preston’s limbs had grown I’d have one less “family.” I’d view normal in the ways I always used to view normal. I’d probably never have started this blog. I’d never have had the opportunity to be taught so much from a little boy. Katie signed Preston up for his first race yesterday to benefit the Children’s Hospital in Richmond. I figured he would run a bit of the “Mascot Mile.” I’d walk along the sidewalk and follow him. He’d maybe get tired. Actually what really happened was Preston ran/jogged the whole thing, with maybe about 1 minute total of walking or resting (prompted by me). To watch this child’s determination, his drive was nothing short of amazing.

He is literally in flight with his tongue out in the above picture. It was this point when I realized I would actually have to run with him. So I ran carrying my camera, my coffee mug and my BlackBerry. Clearly I underestimated Preston’s desire to show all what he can do. P1010511

He totally was so excited about the cheering going on for him along the sidelines. At this point I was exhausted and realized that Preston kills me in stamina.

After his race think he was tired? Nope. He hung out in the bounce house until it was time to wait for Katie to complete the 10K and my parents the 5K. Katie also beat her personal record! GO TINKA!!!!!

What a great day. Preston, Mommy is so beyond proud of you. Thank you once again for showing me how amazing you are, what a gift you are to me and the rest of the world. Thank you God for my unanswered prayer.
