Easter and Spring

Our Easter weekend was very nice.  It is definitely finally spring here in Virginia.  Although it was extremely warm this past week.  Normal temps in April are not in the 90’s, but I am not complaining after that dreadful winter we had.  Last Saturday Preston got ready for the Easter bunny by dying his eggs!  I have to say, I love how Paas has taken Christ out of Easter (and that is sarcasm).  I recall as a child literally fighting with my siblings on who gets to put the cross sticker on their egg.  Now the stickers are soccer balls and bikes.  Because that truly brings out the spirit of the resurrection.  The other thing they no longer include is the wax crayon.  How do you write names on the eggs? And there are only six tablets of colors when I swear they used to give you eight.  They still give you the metal spoon. What the hell is that thing anyway?  A jumbo egg does not balance on it, yet four of us fought over that too. Who wanted to us a spoon when you can use a copper octagonal piece of shat? (Come to think of it, doesn’t it sound so pleasant to have dyed eggs with the four Raab siblings)?   Paas truly sucks.  And you have no other options. Paas definitely has the monopoly on egg dying tablets.  This is also the only time of year I am convinced that white vinegar is sold.

Saturday night one of my dearest friends from high school, Dennis and his father were driving through Virginia from Florida on their way back to New York.  It was so great to have them over for a nice homemade lasagna dinner.  Dennis brought Preston a huge Easter basket (football shaped) with animals and hacky sack sports balls inside.  Props to Dennis for even buying grass! (And by grass I mean that green stringy stuff).

Easter morning! As you can see the Easter Bunny was very generous to Preston and so were Grandma and Pa-Pa Easter Bunny.  He had a lot of fun finding his eggs too!

Preston was not feeling 100% by day’s end but we managed to get over to a neighbor’s house for dessert.  Here is a cute pic of Pres and Grandma.

And proof that Spring is here!

Finally how cool is this?  Every time my mother heads up to their apartment in NYC, Preston asks for a subway car.  Well of course Grandma has found the MTA subway replica cars (which by the way are wooden and conveniently the same size as the Thomas engines).  So of course Grandma has bought all the lines she can and will be petitioning the MTA to manufacture every subway line ever, including the old red 7 trains.  Here is Preston today with his latest package!

I love how your posts always make me chuckle! Your comments about the dye kits are so funny, yet so true! And Caden was quite impressed with the stupid octagon egg picker upper ... even though it can't hold the weight of the egg.
Dennis? Mhh? Could he become more then a friend? He's a good looking guy :0) And how sweet of him to bring Pres an Easter Basket!
I'm glad you guys had a good Easter and have had great weather!!! Have a good Weeekend!

Haha - I totally ditched the entire egg dying fiasco this year...and the kids didn't notice. Looks like Pres definitely made out and had a great Easter! Love the tree - so beautiful!

I totally agree with Trisha on several things here - your posts always bring a smile to my face too! Between your sense of humor and Preston's sweet face, it just make me happy! And Dennis - very good looking guy. Hmm? :-)

So glad that you got to enjoy some good spring weather - I bet you had your flip flops on!

I've been keeping my eye out for one of those paint with water books but haven't come across any. If I find one, I'll send it your way. My mom had actually gotten the two that Caty has at Walgreen or CVS.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you two will be in Nashville!

What a great Easter! I am totally on the same wavelength as Destini, we didn't even dye eggs this year. Loser mom!!! I heard that popping the egg into a wire whisk makes egg-dying much easier than using the octagon contraption, and I thought that was a great idea. I love those subway cars! What a cool collection! I can't believe it was in the 90's already - wow! Hope you are enjoying!

You would think that over the years, with all the other amazing techonoligical advances, that Paas would have a super cool way of dyeing eggs. But no, it's the same crap that you and I had.

I love the subway cars! Jake would go crazy over those. Where do you store all the trains, by the way? Jake is starting to build quite a collection and I don't want those pricey wooden trains to get chipped.

Looks like Pres got quite the haul this year! Nikki loved the Buzz jammies (because when she isn't Diego she's totally Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!") and the Spidey bucket too.

What a fun Easter!! I agree with you on the Paas! We actually stored one of the wax crayons with our Easter decorations a few years back, and luckily we did, since we have had to use that same one every year since. I'll have to break it in half and send you half for next year! :)
How nice that Dennis brought Pres an Easter basket! You make me laugh - thanks for clarifying the green stringy stuff!
It looks like Pres got all kinds of goodies from the Easter Bunny and Grandma and Pa-Pa Easter Bunny! I just love his big smile!! Very cool subway cars!

Aidan would love the subway cars! Happy Spring to you...you finally got some weather you've been waiting for. Pres scored from the Easter Bunny! And your friend from high school....Dennis....I had to stop, pause, zoom in.....he is easy on the eyes. We are all dropping nice subtle hints!

Come on, Kim. Dennis really brought grass don't lie. And then you all sat around the fire pit singing the Memory song.

Dying eggs was always so much fun! And you can just use a white crayon instead.

I hope you had a nice Easter! (Mom gave me half your candy anyway, yum!)
