Dear Family and Friends….

I know you mean well.  I understand you see a toy for your first born nephew and think, “a train set, that’s looks great.”  It comes in a big box so that’s bound to elicit a lot of fun just opening it.  And it sat in NYC since Christmas because you cannot bring it on a plane since it is the size of a small island.  Last week due to my fear of getting back on Jet Blue after my “almost crash” (I know dramatic…) I drove back to VA.  So I brought all the very large toys back to Virginia.  Preston had three huge boxes and picked the train set as the first toy to play with.  Of course. 154 pieces.  Great.  Unlike my sister in law Anna, I do not have a degree in engineering which you really need to put this together:

Can I tell you how proud I am that I put this together all by myself (pause to sing the song…I know you want to)…Yes those are circular loops over on the top middle and bridges and tunnels and decals.  This was the end result:

Which I understand is the reaction you were going for, but please think of little ol’ me when buying a toy larger than oneself.  So thank you Uncle Charlie, Aunt Patricia and Cousin Nicole-the gift was a hit.  And I broke a sweat putting it together.  I will gladly accept donations into the college fund though this year….

You did a geat job building that train set.I can tell you one thing I couldn't have done that. I tried helping my nephew once and we didn't make it very far. So I have to agree on taking donasation for college fund. Much easier.......

Kim, this is hilarious! But I totally thought the post was going to read, "Dear Family & Friends, please stop buying my child enough toys to re-stock the shelves of Target!" Because sometimes I feel like I need to send out that PSA!! You did an awesome job with that train set, and Pres looks thrilled with your hard work! I hope he is having tons of fun with his gift.

But isnt that smile on his face worth it? Imagine if his loser dad had to put it together? He can barely tie his shoes so that thing would have been a real brain buster for him! :)

Love the smile on Preston's face! Even though it was (undoubtedly) a pain to put together, it does look like a pretty cool set! Mom-the-Builder, yes she can (guess what cartoon the girls were watching yesterday)!

Hours of labor worth every smile. What we won't do for our kids. You can swear that you will never do anything like that again but we know in 6 months, there will be many hours of labor again. Great job in getting everything together!

Can you please facebook me the minute that you walk into Prestons room and it's in pieces? Or when the room must be vaccuumed and it has to be taken apart and then put back together? I only mop the floor in the "train" room once a month becuase I have to tear that train track down and put it all back together!

I agree 100% The other funny thing is, I swear some relatives who have older kids just want "pay back" by buying us the loudest toys that make the most ANNOYING noises.

Vacuum around it! It's so wonderful! Trains and cars and wheels. I still think it's a gene.

Ok Kim, you totally need to come up here for a visit! We have that same train set someone handed down to Ethan (with NO DIRECTIONS!!) & I have tryed to put the darn thing together & it doesnt even remotely look like that!! Great job!

I don't put trains together, that is where Ashleigh, or older siblings come into the picture. So far she likes it when I ask her to help Aidan out. Great job. Preston looked so stinkin happy with your accomplishment.

I hear ya Mommy! Just today I was playing Geo-Trax with Caden and he looked at me like, "mom, that is the most generic track ever-it has no loops or ramps" What can I say, we weren't made to create those trains, race tracks etc. But you did a great job!
I also hear ya on the amount of toys! I've been cleaning out the house the last few weeks because I am SICK and tired of feeling like I live in Toys R us!
Cute picture of Mr. Preston :0)

Great job with the train set! Love Preston's smile - he looks thrilled with your hard work! I agree with you on the toys though! My parents have a big train set table for Simon, but I told them that it will have to stay at their house until we have a bigger house than we do now, and we are not planning on moving anytime soon. :) I think after us repeatedly saying only one toy is allowed as a gift for birthdays and Christmas, most of our family is finally getting it and either buying things that are needed or putting money towards his college fund.
I seriously can't get enough of Preston smiles though!!
